Fahrenheit 9/11...

Fahrenheit 9/11 is due for release this Friday, and Ray Bradbury probably won't be first in line to buy a ticket.

"Ray Bradbury is demanding an apology from filmmaker Michael Moore for lifting the title from his classic science-fiction novel Fahrenheit 451 without permission and wants the new documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 to be renamed."

However, titles cannot be copywritten, and Moore was using a play of the title, not the title itself.

As for the movie itself? Records are already being broken for first day ticket sales in New York City.

Fahrenheit 9/11 opens in Evansville tomorrow at Stadium 16.

Clinton's Mammoth "My Life"

Former President Bill Clinton's autobiography, My Life, drops into libraries and bookstores everywhere on Tuesday, June 22. Weighing in at over 900 pages, Clinton is hardly skimping on details of "his life".

If you'd like to read Clinton's interview on 60 Minutes, click here. The site also includes videos, photos and related stories.

Inevitably, Clinton was asked whether his "affair was the worst thing he’s ever done? 'In my whole life? Oh, I don’t know,' says the former president. 'I think I’ve talked about that a lot in the book. And I think I’ve said enough about my personal life. And I think I’ve honestly tried to say more about my life than I believe any public figure ever has. And probably more than anyone ever should. And I think I’ll leave it at that.'"

Stop by APL to check out a copy of My Life or put your name on the holds list today!

Books Borrowed Versus Books Bought?

Though most book readers, and book sellers, place great emphasis on bestseller lists, USA Today reports that "Library Journal, a bimonthly magazine, has begun a list of the books most borrowed [at U.S. public libraries]. It shows similarities and differences from what's selling in bookstores."

The Library Journal list also "shows how service-oriented libraries are," [LJ editor Francine] Fialkoff says.

Library orders are driven by readers. Fialkoff says that at many libraries, "for every three holds (requests for a book), the library will buy another one."

Here at APL, we will periodically make new, bestselling books only circulate for two weeks, and if several holds are placed against a book, we will order new copies. If you have questions about holds or ordering, please contact the Adult Services Information Desk.

Day After Tomorrow Reality?

The Day After Tomorrow has stormed into movie theaters, with a debut box office draw of $86 million over the Memorial Day weekend. But as moviegoers have left the story behind, they have wondered...could that really happen?

Wonder no more! DayAfterTomorrowFacts.org is a project of the Energy Future Coalition, a broad-based, nonpartisan alliance that seeks to bridge the differences among business, labor, and environmental groups and identify energy policy options with broad political support.

New Oprah Book Club Selection

The newest selection for Oprah's Classic Book Club (the fifth selection since restarting her club) is Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy.

As Oprah herself said: "I cannot imagine a world where the great works of literature are not read. My hope is The Oprah Winfrey Show will make classic works of literature accessible to every woman and man who reads. ... I hope to invite readers throughout the world to visit or revisit a universe of books of enduring usefulness, because I believe that the sublimity of this experience, this gift to ourselves, is something that we owe to ourselves."

To learn more about Anna Karenina, visit Oprah's Book Club website.
